I specialise in beginners and intermediate players. My strengths are blues, rock, electric guitar and playing songs on acoustic guitar. I am a professional musician and my approach is based on 30 years of using my skills in a real world context.
We start by making sure you know the notes on the guitar and how to find your way around. It is quite simple but a lot of guitarists don’t have a system . I teach a simple way to always find your way around.
The main thing is that we find songs that you enjoy playing. Even at the beginner level a lot of the best use simple chords and with a few finger picking techniques or strumming with a plectrum you can start to make music quite quickly. We can then move on from there into more technical areas. Scales, chord theory and how to improvise and write your own melodies.
There are a lot of chords and song charts that we can find online . This is good to remind you what to play. But my main approach is to use the ear and focus on how it sounds. That way we make music. From the start we will focus on the rudiments of rhythm and control, dynamics and fluidity, how to play music and connect with the music that you hear.
I teach by ear and can show you how to read chord charts and tab so that you can go out and learn on your own as well.
If you are local I am happy to teach in my studio in Bath
I teach using Zoom as it enables me to share my screen, computer sound and any other teaching resources we may need. We can also record the lesson, or at least a summary of the key points of each lesson. That way we build up a library of all your lessons you can go back and refer to whenever you need to.
£160: a block of 4 lessons
Time: 55 mins per lesson
We can be flexible about when those lessons are taken and we can work at a pace that suits you.
